Using Google Base to Promote Your Books

Author: buynokia  //  Category: Uncategorized

Working in web design and search engine optimization, I have had to develop a rather intimate relationship with Google. Call it a love/hate one if you will, for though I appreciate how Google makes some aspects of my Internet experience easier and more efficient, I do get frustrated when certain SEO tactics I employ go unnoticed by the search engine. My boss likes to say that Google rules the world. That might not be true, but at one point or another we are all certainly at its mercy.

That said, I do give Google credit for assisting website owners in getting their content to Web users searching for relevant information. Though the website proclaims this device is still in beta, Google Base may prove to be an invaluable tool for anyone with something to promote. Authors especially can use Google Base as a means to promote their books.

Is Google Base the gateway through which websites are submitted? Well, yes and no. It is basically confirmed by top SEO experts that physical submission of URLs to the Google search engine is not necessary (Google will eventually find you on its periodic web crawls, but you can still give them a heads-up at Google by clicking on All About Google and submitting from there). Google Base, however, serves to accept more than just website content, as it works to be a database for all content which will eventually be made searchable through various Google entities. Merchants who formally used Google’s shopping engine Froogle, for example, can now use Google Base to make their products more visible on the Internet. In this respect, Google Base may be valuable to authors.

After you apply for a Google Base account, you will be prompted to submit information for search. Among the possible types of data suitable for input are recipes, blog entries and articles, classified ads and event announcements, and products for sale. Here authors can offer information on their works in different ways:

As a product

The advantage to using Google Base to submit book information is that the entry forms are very user-friendly. Every bit of pertinent information about your book is sectioned into the many attributes Google Base recognizes. ISBN, number of pages, links to purchase, publisher information, and book synopsis are simply entered and made searchable throughout Google Search and other applicable Google brands.

One thing to note, however, as you submit your books as products for purchase: these items are only made available for 90 days, after which the item expires and is removed from Google’s banks. Therefore, it is necessary to keep track of when you upload your book information to Google so the listing is always fresh.

Supplementary Information

The good news about Google base is that other bits of information like reviews, articles, and events may be posted indefinitely. Therefore, if you have relevant articles about your books, anecdotes on your writing experiences, reviews to share, and announcements of book signings and conference appearances you can take them to Google Base where they will remain. Simply post the keyword-rich information and link back to your website or the book’s point of sale.

Once your book information is live, you can use Google Base statistics to track its progress. Take a look at your Google Base dashboard, and next to each item listed you will see Impressions, Clicks, and Page Views. Impressions refers to how many times your information has appeared in search results, while clicks denote how many times a visitor clicked your item in search. Page views refers to actual views of the Google Base page with your information. The only drawback to these statistics is that Google Base does not track how many hits are directed to your site or point of sale as a result of the Base listings.

However, using these statistics can give you some idea of how often your information shows up in Google search results. If you notice certain articles garner more impressions than others (and therefore higher visibility in Google), turn your focus toward more content of that nature, with links to your books. You just may find as you check your website logs that your Google referrals will rise, and hopefully your book sales right along with them.

10 Steps to a Spider Friendly Website

Author: buynokia  //  Category: Uncategorized

The 10 steps below will ensure that GoogleBot and other search engine spiders are able to crawl your site with little effort when they visit you. The search engines job is to index as many pages as possible from the web and they do this by trying to find the most efficient pages to process so that they may move on to the next. You can ensure their favor by helping them to index your site efficiently and effectively.

Proper Nesting

Many spiders are built to parse the HTML on your page. One of the things that may confuse a parser or cause it to work harder is improper nesting of HTML elements on a page. These are tags that are opened and closed out of order such as abc…cab versus abc…cba In order to have the spiders crawl through your page flawlessly, visit validator.w3c.org and use their HTML validator specifically looking for error messages that say “end tag for ‘####’ omitted, but its declaration does not permit this” or “end tag for element ‘####’ which is not open”. These are errors that signify improper nesting and while they may allow some spiders to visit your website, your site will lose valuable SEO points because the spiders cannot visit your site as efficiently as it can visit other sites. Remember, search engines need to spider many pages quickly to stay in their game.

Use of Frames

This is a spider killer if there ever was one. You simply cannot link to a specific page in a framed site with any effectiveness. If you link directly to a page within the frame, the rest of the framed page disappears. If you link to the main frames page, there is no way to link to the subpages and only your homepage(s) will show. I-Frames offer a slight advantage as they are contained within a page that has it’s own URL, but many times the content within an I-Frame is inaccessible. Don’t place your navigation or main content into an I-Frame.

SessionID’s in Your URLs

These lead to a seemingly unending list of variations on each URL that have no real effect on the page. Every time a spider visits your pages, they get more and more versions of the same ‘other’ pages, but with different URLs each time because of the sessionID. If you want the spiders to feel at home on your site, then the barbed-wire fields of sessionIDs are not going to work. One way around this is to use a sitemap creation service like AutoMapIt.com that allow you to ‘ignore’ certain URL keys like the sessionID or keys used for sorting lists. This way, they have at least one link to each page that doesn’t include a sessionID. Even if they are turned off at your sitemap, when the spiders visit, they will find the IDs again.

SessionID’s may show up in otherwise friendly URLs. If your users have to log-in on your site or you use some types of tracking software, sessionID’s are what helps your site to keep visitors logged in. They are usually stored in cookies through your browser and don’t normally show up in your URL. If cookies are not available (like on most spiders), the sessionID then gets passed through the URL. You may want to turn cookies off in your browser and surf your site… do the sessionIDs show up?

Search-Friendly URLs

This goes beyond the sessionID’s in the URL and appeal more to the actual URLs being used. According to Google Webmaster Guidelines, “It helps to keep the parameters short and the number of them few”. Apache makes this easy through mod_rewrite and Windows servers offer Isapi-Rewrite to accomplish turning ‘ugly’ URLs into ’static’ URLs. You should NEVER use id= in your URLs as Google does not to spider those pages. Change it to cid= or lmnopid=, but if you use id=, your pages are already doomed from the start.

Proper Meta Tags

Despite their value decreasing, and a lot of talk about them being of no use now, meta tags are anything but dead. Google uses your meta-description as the description on their SERPs. Yahoo uses description tags and prefer sites that have them. Many other search engines use the meta keywords as well. Even if they only verify that it is present and correct, many search engines won’t touch your site without them. The meta robots tag is unnecessary unless it’s restricting access to a page. It is the spiders natural state to index a page and follow all links from it. Using it to ‘allow’ spiders only increases your code:text ratio needlessly and may hurt your potential rank by a slight amount.

Javascript/Images/Flash

Use these sparingly to accentuate your site for users. You should never rely on these for critical website functions like navigation, content, or other vital page info. Even though 98% of the internet uses javascript, turning it off along with images and multimedia in your browser (or using the Lynx browser) will allow you to visit your site as the search engines do. This 20 minute task will alert you to potential problems that your site will have when the search engines visit.

Links

Most everyone knows that links into your website bring spiders to visit and help your rank, but the links within your site to itself and other websites are also very important. Google limits you to 100 links per page and most other engines are rather close (but perhaps more generous) and allow you 150 or so links per page. This is total for links within your site and links to other sites.

Keyword stats and code:text ratio

Your goal should be to have the most content possible (human readable) while limiting the amount of code used to deliver this. Keywords should be limited to a few select phrases and possibly some variations on those phrases. If you are at all considering any meaningful SEO work on your site, you should really invest your first few dollars into finding the right keywords. There are many free keyword tools such as Wordtracker.com to at least give you a start, but the few extra dollars for the upgrades are usually well worth it if you want to target the correct markets and find terms that you weren’t expecting.

Standards Compliant/Accessible

This builds on the Validator tool used earlier from W3C. By making your website completely standards compliant, you remove any possible errors in the code that may hang-up a spider. While complete compliance is not as critical as parsing errors from open tags and truly broken code, it certainly helps to ease the process of being spidered.

Branding

The links within your site should all use the same www. or non-www. branding. Many search engines see those variants as two separate sites and Google will even apply different PR to a page based on www or non-www. This can be further enforced by changing your htaccess file to automatically switch versions if the other is visited. If you visit the non-www version of my sites, it will automatically be forwarded to the www version. This is not a critical step, but it is a major enhancement for not a lot of work involved. Why split your value in half when you can focus it like a laser? Just be sure to request links, add your link to profiles, and link to your own site from within your site using one version or the other, but not both.

Following these ten steps will help to ensure that your site is well-received by ALL of the search engine spiders and will not limit you to the bare essentials for only one spider (or bad ranking with all of the spiders equally). Let’s face it, if you have ever tried to get better rank on a search engine, you know that any break you can get will help. These steps should be performed at the creation of your web site and continue throughout it’s life-cycle to ensure that the spiders are always able to visit your site with as little effort on their part as possible.

Want Internet Marketing Success? Be Ready to Work Hard and Smart

Author: buynokia  //  Category: Uncategorized

Many people try to make money with Internet Marketing (IM) at some point during their life. Yet very few people actually make any real money. Of course there are many factors as to why someone does or doesn’t become successful with IM. However, two of the biggest factors are a person’s ability to both work hard and to work smart. If you want IM success then you better be ready to work hard and smart.

Most people realize that if they are going to be successful with anything then they better be willing to work hard. However, not everyone is actually willing to do this. There are some people who try to always take the easy way out and are always looking to take a shortcut. Often these people don’t even realize what they’re doing. Don’t fall into this trap.

If you want to be successful with Internet Marketing then you better be willing to work very hard, especially in the first couple of years. Success does not come easily, especially in the IM world. Although no one is there to look over your shoulder (usually) and there aren’t any hard deadlines, you still need to hold yourself responsible to setting high goals and then achieving those goals.

As we already mentioned, most people do know that they need to work hard if they want to succeed. However, very few people actually realize that they have to work smart too. What does this mean? Simply that a person must be able to manage their time and their tasks efficiently in order to do the best job possible.

Working smart is especially important with Internet Marketing because there is so much potential to be led astray. There are many distractions both online and offline that can eat up your time. And there are so many potential projects you can work on that you can easily get caught-up in working on several projects at once and getting absolutely nothing accomplished. So make sure you always work smart.

It’s important to work hard and smart if you want to be successful with Internet Marketing. Working hard means that there will be times when you have to put in 12-14 hours in day. There will be days when you do nothing but work on IM. And working smart means that you will do what has to be done and do it the easiest way possible. You won’t allow distractions to get in the way and you won’t waste your time trying things that won’t work. If you work hard and smart then you will have a very good chance of making real money with Internet Marketing.

The Top 10 Pharmacy Schools Rankings in the US and The 4 Tips To Get Into Them

Author: buynokia  //  Category: Uncategorized

There are many reasons why a pre-pharmacy student may choose to apply to a certain pharmacy school. These factors may include things such as location, curriculum, weather, class size and etc. However, there is one criterion that is often overlooked by most students. This method requires little effort and is based on something that most of us use everyday. Many students do not choose schools by their Google PageRank. The Google search engine is hard at work everyday. It is the #1 search engine in the United States. Why not use its searching powers to your advantage by using one of their tools? This tool is the Google PageRank.

What is Google PageRank? To keep it short and simple, it is basically how the Google search engine grades the importance of a particular website. And as of this writing, the highest page ranked pharmacy school in the Google Directory, under “School of Pharmacy”, is the University of California, San Francisco. Below are the top 10 pharmacy schools according to Google PageRank.

1) University of California, San Francisco

2) Purdue University

3) University of Cincinnati

4) University of North Carolina

5) University of Kentucky

6) University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

7) Ferris State University

8) University of Tennessee

9) University of Oklahoma

10) Idaho State University

Why not select your schools according to this ranking? If an interviewer ask, why you chose to apply to their pharmacy school, you can always say something like “I applied to your pharmacy school because it is highly ranked according to the Google PageRank system.” Be unique and you never know if this answer or one that you create yourself can get you into pharmacy school.

Now the 4 tips to getting into these top ten pharmacy schools in the US are:

1) Apply Early.

2) If research is necessarily for acceptance, make sure that you begin your research project early, preferably in your 1st or 2nd year of college.

3) Ace your PCAT

4) Become a great story teller.

Simple SEO Improvements Will Net Big Gains

Author: buynokia  //  Category: Uncategorized

Perhaps the most common misconception about Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is that it is a “Black Art”, requiring intimate knowledge of search engine algorithyms and an engineering degree, not to mention months or even years for it to work. Another common but opposite misconception is that once you’ve built your website, you’ll automatically start attracting visitors. Or that once your site has been indexed by the various search engines, you’ll get a high ranking in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) for any and every keyword you like.

In reality, optimizing your site for the search engines - in other words, getting ranked for specific keywords - requires you to have a strategy, as well as putting in some degree of effort.

However it is not a “Black Art”; in fact the steps necessary to achieve significant SERPs ranking benefits are simple to implement. Further, these simple steps will begin having a positive effect within days or weeks.

Many of these steps involve “on page” elements, meaning things you do with your web page, rather then “off page” elements, such as backlinks from other websites.

Before implementing any SEO strategy however, you must decide specifically which keywords or phrases you are trying to rank for. Web pages are not optimized for a page or whole site, but rather individual keywords. And targeting more than 3-5 keywords per page is ineffective.

Ideally, you will optimize each individual page on your site, choosing different keywords to target for each. Even pages having similar content can achieve this. For instance, a “weight loss” web site with many pages might choose “weight loss”, “losing weight”, and “how to lose weight”, for one page, while another page might use “dieting”, “how to diet”, and “dieting right”.

Once you have your keywords or phrases chosen, you can follow some simple steps to boost the rank and visibility of each page.

The single most important “on page” element is the “title tag”. This is the html code that gives the page it’s name, and what appears at the top of the browser window. Including some or all of your chosen keywords in the title tag has the greatest impact of all SEO factors.

The second biggest factor is the page URL. Again, you want to include as many of your keywords as possible. For your homepage, you would try and choose a domain name using combinations of your home page keywords. Since many common keywords are long since used up, you can add words or hyphens. Even a creatively named page using your keywords, such as “xxx.a1-weight-loss.xxx” is better than one that doesen’t. Lastly, your main page headline, if put within “H1″ tags, carries significant weight with the search engines.

SEO isn’t just for big corporate websites. Even small sites used for affiliate marketing can boost their traffic, and thereby their sales, just as easily.

Following just these simple steps outlined, you can achieve 70%-80% of the “magic” that even the most sophisticated search engine optimization will provide.

If you are doing SEM or Search Engine Marketing, having a good ranking can mean the difference between being a successful Internet marketer enjoying free, organic search engine traffic, or having to use PPC (Pay Per Click) or other costly means to attract visitors.

Search Engine Optimization Secrets - What Are the Simple Steps to Shoot Up the Rankings?

Author: buynokia  //  Category: Uncategorized

Search engine optimization is a proven way to get swarms of free traffic invading your website. However, many people choose not to do search engine optimization because they think it is difficult. I agree - it can be perceived that way but it’s not difficult if you just follow some basic ground rules for SEO success.

I personally have several websites and dozens of web pages that make it to the first page for competitive keywords, and all I do is simple SEO fundamentals. Yes, it’s really simple to optimize your site for the search engines as long as you follow the main rules. You definitely don’t need any fancy tricks to succeed at all.

If you want to learn how I get on the first page of Google consistently for competitive keywords, then read on for the simple 2-step process I use:

Step 1 - The first thing I do is on-site optimization. I will optimize my meta tags, including the title, keywords and description to include the main keyword phrase I’m targeting for a high ranking.

Step 2 - Then I do off-site optimization. This involves the building of backlinks to your web site. You’ll want to include your main keyword phrase in the these links (to make them anchor text links) so they get recognized by the search engines. Some ways to get powerful backlinks is through article marketing (posting articles all over the web to article directories), forum posting, blogging, and directory submission. All these tactics are effective in generating quality backlinks.

How Internet Mentality Effects SEO

Author: buynokia  //  Category: Uncategorized

The SEO process is a strategic effort to reach the top of the search engine rankings where your potential clients and customers will be able to find you. This process is different from most traditional advertising campaigns because it must adapt to the Internet mentality which is, in fact, different than more common commercialism and consumerism.

Compare the Internet consumer to the brick and mortar consumer. When a customer wanders the mall or other shopping center they have a vague idea that they may buy something… say, shoes. They will go from store to store and try a few things on and if they come across a great pair, or if they are presented with an incredible deal of some sort they may just buy.

Then there is the Internet customer. They get online and search for, say, “blue expensive shoes.” This means that they are far more likely to purchase the first blue and expensive shoes they see… or they are at least more likely compared to a customer wandering from store to store. So here is the first thing SEO must consider: the potential customers have probably already made the decision to buy something. Now you have to cater to that mindset.

How do you do that? By taking into account the second Internet mentality SEO must address to be successful. And that is the intensely short attention span of the average visitor.

Everyone knows that SEO is trying to get a website to rank better because most people who use a search engine are unwilling to look past the third page of results to find the site they want. But SEO needs to think of more than that. They need to consider the searcher’s intent.

When the searcher and potential customer clicks on your listing that you have worked so diligently to move up the rankings, will they see what they really expected to see? Will they find what they were really looking for?

If not, then it’s just a simple click to immediately leave the site again.

Search engine optimization has a growing history and reputation, and not all of it is good. Black Hat SEO, those optimization techniques that are less than ethical, has made the Internet market a careful and suspicious one. Many customers have found themselves on a website they had no interest in, or might have even been completely opposed to. But they went there because someone had gotten it to the first page of results.

The Internet mentality won’t let a customer be satisfied with clicking away in frustration. Nor will they be happy with warning a few friends about your questionable practices, not when there is so much more they can do to cause you at least as many headaches as you cased them. Popular options these days include blog posts, jamming your own forums with bad reviews, posting on other sites, and even reporting you to the search engines who will act more quickly and more brutally than the Better Business Bureau ever did.

Currently there is a big SEO push to try and take advantage of the social mentality on the Internet. Some of these have been more effective than others. The underlying idea was sound. In the social networking model the plan is to get one consumer to recommend the product or service to another customer. Or, at least, to make it look like the recommendation comes from another customer.

But this, like any other SEO tactic, can backfire when it’s done wrong. Communities are very protective of their own, and if they find that someone has tried to infiltrate their community in the name of base commerce, you will alienate yourself from that group completely.

When you undertake an SEO campaign, remembering the Internet mentality is one of the foundational aspects that can help you build true, long-term success.

How Long Does it Take to Get PageRank?

Author: buynokia  //  Category: Uncategorized

One of the questions I’m asked almost daily by my readers is how long does it take for Google to assign PageRank. If you’ve ever wondered the same thing, here’s the answer to that question:

It usually takes at least three full months for all of your inbound links to be calculated and counted as backlinks. Google’s PageRank is calculated based on the relevancy, quantity and quality of your inbound links, as well as the number of outbound links there are on your website. Generally speaking, the fewer outbound links a website has the better.

Conversely, the higher the PR of your inbound links, the more PR is assigned to your website. For example, a website with a very respectable Google PR of 5 or 6, but with many outbound links, might be assigned much less PR than a PR3 site with only a couple of outbound links. You can track your PageRank by downloading Google’s toolbar, or by using one of the numerous sites that will allow you to check your PR. One such site is http://www.pagerankchecker.biz

Google assigns PR on a case by case basis, and there are simply too many variables to estimate what your particular PR will be. So you just have to be patient and wait and see what Google decides to do. Let me further elaborate:

Google’s PR is an algorithm used by Google to assign scores to websites based on the number and quality of other websites that link to it. The purpose of PR is to give an indication of the relative importance of a particular site. Generally speaking, sites with a higher PR will appear in the search results ahead of those sites with lower page ranks. Therefore, a high PR is very important and desireable.

The scores assigned (or at least the scores which are made visible to those outside of Google) are in the 0 to 10 range, where 0 is very bad and 10 is exceptionally good. For example, a PR of 4 is considered good and is achievable for most sites. A PR of 5 or 6 is extremely hard to achieve, but possible. And a PR of 7-10 is generally achieved only by sites that are household names.

So can you increase your PR? Absolutely, but it takes time. The key is continually adding as many relevant, quality inbound links from respected websites as you possibly can. That’s really all that you can do. The rest is up to Google.

By the way, I should point out the numbers I’m using are not a scientifically conclusive by any means. The information I’m sharing with you is based on my own personal experience. Your mileage may vary.

Five Situations in Which SEO Will Fail

Author: buynokia  //  Category: Uncategorized

If you provide SEO services, there are several red flags that should make you want to keep your distance from a potential job.

The goal of an SEO campaign is to achieve high rankings for keywords that will expose the site to its target market and help create new business. However, some web sites are easier for an SEO to work with than others. I’ve listed some scenarios that may have you scratching your head as how to best proceed. If you’ve ever had a client fall into these categories, you know how fast it can bring an SEO campaign to a halt.

1. You’re Stuck With Search Engine-Unfriendly Content

Imagine this scenario: The client is attempting to reach top position on the search engines for a term that is being competed for by sites with loads of free information, fresh industry news, a blog, and other content appealing to search engines. Your client’s site, however, is a stale site designed in Flash with very little content, and the home page is the only page indexed by search engines. Sure, you could attempt to offset the lack of content with an intensive link campaign, but the odds are against you, especially if you decide to use black hat SEO methods.

2. Restrictive Web Publishing or Content Management Systems

Some CMS options are tough on search engine marketers because they are outdated or do not provide enough access to the raw web page code. They can also bloat the page size with poor coding practices and excess scripts. Many people also choose a hosting plan that offers only a simple online site editor. Sometimes very few of the important areas like page titles, H1 tags or the internal linking structure can be modified. Can you convince the client to convert to a new system or hosting provider? If so, great. But if not, you may be stuck putting in additional hours installing SEO patches for the software or hassling the hosting company for better access.

3. The Client is in a Volatile Industry

Stock brokers, real estate agents, work-from-home schemes, or infomercial “gurus” don’t always make great long-term clients. Use your judgment when approached by a prospective client and ask yourself some questions:

- Are they trying to succeed in an unstable market? (IE. home loans in October of 2008)

- What kind of presence does this company have in their industry?

- Are there any BBB complaints or has bad press been written about them?

- Do they hide contact information on the web site and in their Whois registration?

- Can I realistically see them as my client a year from now? Two years?

If you’re like me, you take that gut feeling into consideration when making decisions in life. The same can apply for business - if something “just doesn’t feel right” about someone or their company, then it probably isn’t.

4. The Client is Just Not With The Times

The Web has become a very interactive place. In many industries, a web site’s search engine ranking will suffer if the company is slow to keep pace with current trends and technologies. As a musician, streaming online audio and an interactive and creative web presence is essential. Someone in real estate needs to offer tools such as a mortgage calculator, buyer’s guide, or market reports for their visitors.

In each industry, there is a benchmark set for online resources. If a potential client is years behind that kind of thinking, chances are they won’t do much business even if you do manage to get them ranking high on the search engines.

5. Too Many Cooks In The Kitchen

This one is a real pet peeve of mine. If a company has invested thousands of dollars in outsourcing SEO, let the SEO firm do their job unfettered. It can cost the client additional fees if others have access to the web server and unknowingly overwrite optimized content. If your client has a number of people with direct access to web files, have them schedule a meeting to get everyone on the same page and let them know about the SEO process.

If a separate company or individual is handling the design and development of the content first, have an SEO consultant on board during that time to advise on search engine-friendly content creation. In many cases a client will not know that the web designers may not be following the best SEO practices.

Make sure there is a clear and legally-binding separation in the SEO firm taking over development of the content. I had one scenario years ago where I had finished optimizing a client’s content only to receive an angry phone call out of nowhere from the old designer demanding an explanation. A client who has developed their web site from several different sources may have designers and web hosts lurking around still with FTP access. The “too many cooks in the kitchen” scenario can turn nasty if someone gets overly-defensive about the site being changed.

Search engine optimization isn’t always smooth sailing, but being aware of the more common stumbling blocks before hand can definitely ease the frustration. Hopefully these help you in your future efforts.

What is Link Baiting?

Author: buynokia  //  Category: Uncategorized

Have you ever wondered how web pages obtained back links pointing to their sites? A simple and indirect method to obtaining backlinks to your website is link baiting. It is most definitely one of the tools that an Internet marketing professional should use in attracting qualified traffic. In essence, link baiting is simply persuading others to place a direct link to your web page.

Every time you write an article that is humorous or can generate a lot of controversy, these types of content are very likely to be linked by forums, other web page, or even blogs. Every time you do something like this, you are link baiting. The best use of link baiting is to have an informational web page for people to link into, and then have your web page link directly to the real page where you carry the products that you want to sell.

Other popular ways of link baiting is to hold online sweepstakes, send out free newsletters, or provide software tools for free to the public. Even modifying content on Wikipedia and including a link to your website is a common link baiting method. For all of these methods, you can easily link to the page of interest, commonly called the squeeze page.

And best of all, link building coincides with typical search engine optimization strategies.
